Welcome!

These "paintings in paper" or "Torn Paper Paintings" as they are sometimes called, are exactly that, paper. You will find everything from handmade papers to local newspapers used in these pieces to create my color palette. NO PAINT. There is no paint used once the process begins other than some bits of hand painted papers which I paint myself.

I start with a prepared surface of either canvas board, chipboard, wood, or heavy weight watercolor paper, depending on the size piece I'm working on. A simple sketch is done first and then a very light under painting to establish my color scheme and use as sort of a road map. From there it is all paper. I work with a matte gel medium to layer in all my papers. The paper is also mainly torn as opposed to cut in order to give it a more natural feel. I only cut for areas I have no choice. The paper is layered from the background to foreground and is done in stages hence, a very time consuming process. In the end the entire piece is coated over with a thin layer of varnish to protect the surface but not lose the texture.
